The Journey of a Collaboration

How to Upcycle Your Materials into a CSR Strategy

Most CSR strategies start with good intentions and end with a beach clean-up. A one-off action that looks good in a report and fades from memory by Q3. We understand why it happens, designing meaningful, sustained corporate social responsibility is genuinely difficult, and the pressure to show something quickly often wins over the patience to build something lasting.

At ANKAA, we offer a different kind of collaboration. One that is tangible, traceable and rooted in the everyday life of a neighbourhood in Athens. This is what that looks like in practice.

It starts with a conversation

Every collaboration begins with a question: what does your company need, and what can we make together? For most of our corporate partners, the answer involves their materials. Company banners, fabric offcuts, retired fairground inflatables, t-shirts and old merch, things that have served their purpose and are heading for a skip.

From there, we sit down together to talk about design, format and function. What kind of product makes sense? A bag, a pouch, a set of accessories? Something for the team, something for clients, something for an event? The brief shapes the object, and the object carries the story of where it came from.

Then the making begins

Production takes place in our tailoring lab at Ithakis 29, Kypseli. Our tailors, many of them former students of our own vocational training programme, handle the making from start to finish. Every step is transparent, every material is accounted for, and fair working conditions is not a policy document but a daily practice.

What the collaboration funds

This is the part that changes the nature of the partnership entirely. When a company works with ANKAA, the income generated goes directly back into the organisation, funding free Greek language classes and free vocational training in tailoring for people who need them. The product you commission becomes the class someone attends.

The banner that ended its corporate life becomes the skills that begin someone else's.

That is a circular economy not as a concept but as a daily loop, from your materials to our lab to our students to the community.

Why this matters for your CSR strategy

Businesses in Greece and across Europe are under increasing pressure to demonstrate that their CSR commitments are substantive, not cosmetic. Working with ANKAA ticks multiple boxes without the box-ticking energy: upcycling, fair pay, community investment, social inclusion, vocational education and local production, all in one collaboration, all in one city.

If you are looking for an Athens-based organisation with a creative lab, a clear social mission and a model that produces something real, we would like to talk.
