ABOUT ANKAA

ANKAA Project is a not-for-profit organisation, founded in 2017, that works with communities affected by forced migration and/or unemployment. ANKAA’s hybrid model of a social enterprise connects its education programs, focused on social inclusion, with its revenue-generating activities of creating sustainable products under fair and ethical working conditions. 

 

ANKAA’s educational programs in sewing and Greek language are aimed at supporting students with the necessary tools to rebuild their lives in a sustainable and dignified way. In its professional tailoring lab, ANKAA manufactures customised and sustainable products with a talented team of tailors. With its holistic approach towards social inclusion ANKAA highlights the interconnection between education and employment.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This role will teach Greek language lessons for classes of between 10 and 15 adult students for language cafes, A0 and A1 levels. The curriculum for these levels has already been developed, and the role involves planning the classes, teaching and correcting homework. Each class has a duration of 1.5 hours. The teacher should help create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds.

This role is based in Kipseli, Athens. It is a part-time position (15 hours per week), starting as a short-term contract with possibility of extension.

RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

  • Prepare for and teach 1.5hour classes following the provided curriculum.

  • Prepare, assign and correct homework assignments.

  • Keep attendance for each class and closely collaborate with the Operations officer for student communication and follow up.

  • Help with student registration, including checking the language level of new students.

  • Contribute to class scheduling and organisation alongside fellow teachers and the Operations Officer.

  • Work together with other Greek teachers to keep a similar and coordinated teaching approach.

  • Contribute to improve teaching approaches and materials.

  • Help create a friendly, safe, and inclusive learning environment for students from different backgrounds.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Fluent in Greek and English.

  • Proven experience of at least 1 year in teaching Greek as a second language.

  • Flexible, proactive, and able to adapt lessons to diverse learning needs

  • Strong organisational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to create a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom atmosphere.

  • Studies in Philology or Pedagogy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with vulnerable communities.

  • Ability to manage group dynamics sensitively and effectively.

  • Ability to meet strict deadlines.

  • Sense of humour.

  • Knowledge of Arabic, Farsi or French is appreciated.
